KARACHI: The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has decided not to hold any public meeting in the NA-249 constituency of Karachi in connection with the upcoming by-election for the National Assembly seat. The PPP had earlier announced that it would hold a big public meeting in the constituency on Monday (today).
A statement issued on Sunday quoted Sindh Information and Local Government Minister Syed Nasir Hussain Shah as saying that the public meeting had been called off on the direction of PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari. Shah said that the party chief had issued the directives to this effect in view of the surge in the cases of Covid-19 in the city as Pakistan fights against the third wave of the deadly viral disease.The information minister said that the provincial government of the PPP had since the beginning performed a leadership role in the country to prevent the spread of the deadly coronavirus.

Police said the 32-year-old Eden Nicolson had been located this evening.
They thanked the public for their help after issuing an urgent appeal for sightings of Nicolson after he disappeared from Hillmorton Hospital this afternoon.
At the time they believed the missing man might be headed to a populated area such as a shopping mall and asked people to keep watch.

More than four in five Chinese are willing to receive COVID-19 vaccines, the highest rate among all six major vaccines for adults, a survey released on Sunday showed.
Chinese people s overall acceptance of vaccines - meaning they recognize that vaccination can effectively prevent diseases - has jumped to 85 percent, up nearly 40 percentage points from last year, it said.
Public awareness of vaccines designed to prevent hepatitis B and the human papillomavirus has also increased markedly compared with last year, but people s knowledge about influenza, pneumonia and herpes vaccines remains relatively low, the survey said.

On Tuesday, 27th April, a conference on Professional development of public servants in time of pandemic – challenges and lessons learned organised by the National Academy for Public Administration (NAPA) with the support of the Programme „Human Resources Management in Local Self-Governments – phase 2“ will take place.
The conference will address how public administration re-organised its work and the process of professional development during the Covid-19 pandemic; challenges to teleworking; and how the process of professional development of public servants was adapted to the principles of online education. From February to April 2021, 15 staff members of the Ombudsperson Office of the Republic of Azerbaijan participated in a training organised by the regional Eastern Partnership project on combating discrimination. The training was practice-based, so participants learnt how to combat discrimination through handling complaints from citizens and promoting equality activities.
The objectives were:
To support the learning of staff members of the Ombudsoffice in Azerbaijan in the field of dealing with discrimination complaints
To do practical exercises and activities on complaints handling in discrimination cases
To introduce to staff members of the Ombudsoffice in Azerbaijan to good practices of complaints handling in discrimination cases from other Ombudsoffice in the region.
